i feel like the explination is far too good for the picture, i get that the guy is supposed to be as simple as posible and thet the background is meant to be unrealistice but despite being an interesting idea i have the impresion it is poorly executed and that you could have done more, some part of the background are good and even a few of the 'stand on rocks' seem decent but the black lines over the blue surface resembling the sea and the withe figure that seems to have been croped and pasted really don't help, you need to integrate the work so that it has an overall quality and a feeling as a hole instead of looking like a collage.
